Production diary September 3rd- April 28th

Week 1: in the first week/s of term we was given an essay to write on analysing a music video and a preliminary task of a remake of Brittany Spears - hit me baby one more time, so we could get practice of how do film a music video and lip syncing, We all worked as a group on this and uploaded certain parts to YouTube. After this i then went on to analyse more music videos so we could look at things like target audience , mise en scene and different genres , this helped me because i could see what types of genres there are and what i want my video to be like. After this i then went on to make a prezi about what music means to me and what it may mean to other people this helped the basis of my music video.


Week 2: In  the second week the class was set a project all together where we had to create a display bored of significant music videos from the 1960s to present day. We were split up into different groups and each group had to look at music videos from a certain era and why they was significant. I also went on to learn how to edit here and practiced my editing skills with random footage.


















Week 4 : This lesson we were given another research task in to Digipaks. We had to take photos and make a digipak , ours was really bad an unprofessional however it gave us the knowledge we needed to make a really good digipak.




Week 5: We had two lesson to complete an assessment task, as it was assessment week at school. The task was to write a essay reflecting on our AS work and seeing what our strengths and weaknesses were to then apply them to this year's course work on what we are going to do differently to ensure that we will get a better grade than we did last year.


Week 6: this week we picked our song and started story boarding and emailed our artist and had our song agreed so we was ready to film over the half term and after that we felt prepared for our music video. We knew the type of shots we wanted and what we wanted to include, we also know that we are going on a school ski trip and want to put shots of this in our video. I also am going to Florida so we plan to incorporate some underwater shots from there.


Half term and Week 7- Till November 18th This week we started our filming and although having many set backs e.g forgetting to get a camera,trying to find time to film or to get all of our band, we feel we have successfully started filming and are finding the editing really funny as our song is dreampop we're going for a really colour filled upbeat vibe to our video.


Questions to be answered; 
From my last assessment i have updated my production diary but as I've mostly been focusing on editing and filming i need to become more up to date with the research and planning aspects of my work and reflecting on what i have filmed on my blog. My current targets to improve are to try and finish filming and editing soon so i can begin on my digipak, website and other aspects to make my  blog work better. Next time i would like my research and planning of my actual video to be assessed and things such as first drafts and editing skills (practicing or not).

November 18th - 8th December 
Our filming and editing is mostly done at this point we just have to make some final. Filming was a very time consuming task as it was hard to find time to film also with it being a dark time of the year. We are now on our third draft after making tweaks and editing. 


January 5th
over the past weeks from the 8th till now we done a lot of band lip syncing and have almost finished filming. we have one or two shots left to film but we have mostly finished.  We decided our video should be mostly based around colour and we have shown this a lot in our video we have also added a lot of effects such as sun streaming in because we wanted a vibrant up beat video which shows us having fun and not caring about much. This our 4th edit but we have decided to make some changes. we edited it and added some shots in London.



Jan 6th - Jan 27th - over the past few weeks we have completely changed the video after taking a break over Christmas we no longer liked our video so we have changed it. Incorporating a lot of beach shots and arcade shots etc to really get the fun element. We have took out a lot of the band shots because we decided they didn't look right we spent a lot of this time planning what we was going to shoot and film, we  also spent time planning outfits and various locations at Southend such as aquarium shots too.

End of January - end of half term - over this period we spent the time before half term in school editing our video so it could be the best it could possibly be we continued this till half term then we took a break and over half term took our digipak photos and made our digipak so then when we came back to school we could finish our editing and therefore after start our evaluation question.


After half term - 20th march - here we done all of our editing and finished our video completely , we took a lot of the southend shots and used all of these however we kept two or three good band shots , from this we have  now started our evaluation questions and finishing up our research and planning.























21st-28th march  - here we have completed our evaluation questions and all our video , and ancillary texts , this took a lot of drafting and re doing but together we managed to do this. Please find all of this on our blogs. Evaluation Questions .



29th March - End of April - Here we finished our digipak , Website and our final video, we got all of our evaluation questions done and our coursework was basically done. Link to Website.

Music video ideas chloe and ryan







We realised we needed a lot of ideas for our music video and we thought the best way to appeal to our target audience was to ask their opinions on what they thought we should include in our video, we believe this will bring us closer to our audience and we hope this will make us more successful.

Conventions of Dream Pop Genre.

Here me and a friend worked on the conventions of the dreampop genre, we looked at real media texts and used this as inspiration to use , develop and challenge the genre. By looking at these videos we could analyse and see in detail the aspects of the genre conventions and how to create them.

Audience Reactions Chloe and Ryan





We thought that the only way we could see if our song would be successful is to ask people what they truly thought. It became challenging as the camera made people shy and not want to show their true reactions but everyone seemed to agree that the song was catchy and made them feel either calm or escaped from reality , which is what we want our audience to feel.

Analysis of Song Lyrics



Our song choice has very few lyrics so we know we're going to have to be really creative with our ideas and do a lot of filming. However we feel our lyrics have a lot of connotations that we can use to spring ideas from and hopefully if we put them all in a concept based video we think we may be able to achieve a really good music video. We feel like we can really understand the song and find the right shots for it as we are young people and the song is aimed at a younger audience who want to escape from the pressures of life while they still can. The chorus is repeated 5 times and we don't want the chorus to be the same shot every time we want it to be individual and we even plan to do a scene setter before the song starts and end the same way but in between we want to show the artist going on a weird dreamlike journey. Our audience should watch our music video and feel as sense of escapism.
